We all know that summer is hot, but wow, June isn't supposed to be that hot! We decided to go fishing on lake Erie this day. It turned out to be a cool idea. (Pun intended!) It felt like 80 with a breeze on the water. We were well pleased.
We were not any more pleased than Gunner! He thought it was great! Of course Gunner is always up for a boat ride.
Our catch that day was tasty, but not much meat on one yellow perch!
Captain Randy and I decided that it was too hot for any of us to sleep on the boat so we got a motel in Sandusky. Maple's Motel in Sandusky is a nice little place on route 6, just past the airport, 3.5 miles east of Cedar Point. It is clean and the rates are reasonable.
The next day we met up with Matt and Andrew. Andrew caught the first and biggest fish of the trip! I am glad we didn't have a pool on this trip! LOL! He would have cleaned house!
My best walleye wasn't too shabby either. It was 26", and made some nice fat fillets. We ran 20 miles east near Vermillion and caught 24 walleyes in 4 hours! Nice day. There was not a single boat in sight. We were near what Matt called the sand bar. We were trolling with worm harnesses in 45 feet of water. We got back to the Marina in good time because the lake was fairly calm.
Apparently the lake was the only thing that was calm! We drove home in time to see that storms had ravaged our beloved state. Power was out everywhere as we traveled down the center of the state toward home. I pray for all those affected. My own home had shingles torn off and we, like most, are without power. God bless everyone!
